Is there a free plan, or do I have to pay from day one?

There is no free plan — QuickReply starts at $59/month for the Starter plan. Higher tiers are $149/month (Standard) and $299/month (Plus). All taxes and WhatsApp messaging charges are billed separately on top of the subscription fee.

What are the real total costs — is the subscription price all I pay?

No. On top of the monthly subscription, you pay WhatsApp per-template-message fees charged by Meta. These vary by message category (Marketing, Utility, Authentication, Service) and the recipient's country. Customer-initiated replies within WhatsApp's 24-hour service window are free, but every outbound template message is billed individually regardless of whether a window is already open.

Can I use my existing WhatsApp number, and will I lose my chat history?

Yes, you can migrate your existing WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business number to the API. However, once migrated, the number is permanently locked to the QuickReply dashboard — it can no longer be used as a regular WhatsApp app. All existing chat history and contact data on the number will be erased during migration.

How long does setup take, and do I need a developer?

QuickReply's onboarding docs state it takes 1–2 days to get your account live if your Facebook Business Manager is already verified, plus an additional 2–3 days for WhatsApp's approval of your number (which can extend to 7–10 days if issues arise).
