Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify Collective free, or will I pay commissions and setup fees?
Shopify Collective is completely free to install and use — there are no setup fees and no high commissions charged by Shopify. You do need an active paid Shopify plan with Shopify Payments enabled. Your only cost as a retailer is the wholesale price you pay suppliers, which happens automatically after they fulfill an order.
Does my store qualify — what are the eligibility requirements?
Your store must be on a paid Shopify plan with Shopify Payments activated and be located in a supported country (US, Canada, UK, and many EU countries, among others). Shopify removed the previous $50,000 minimum revenue requirement in its Summer 2025 edition, making Collective open to smaller stores with no minimum sales history required.
How does fulfillment actually work — do I ever touch the inventory?
No — you never handle any inventory. After a customer places an order on your store, Shopify automatically forwards it to the relevant supplier, who fulfills and ships directly to your customer. Tracking numbers sync back to your store automatically, and you're only charged the wholesale cost once the supplier ships.
Will my product listings stay accurate — what about overselling?
Shopify Collective features real-time, ultrafast inventory syncing, meaning product details, pricing, and stock levels stay current at all times. This eliminates the risk of overselling, even during flash sales. Note, however, that overselling protection only works through standard checkout — it won't apply to manually created orders.
What are the real limitations I should know before committing?
There are a few notable constraints: suppliers can only apply a single discount percentage across an entire price list (no SKU-level pricing), some product data like SKUs, barcodes, and custom tags may not sync automatically (requiring manual cleanup), and Collective does not support Shopify's Managed Markets feature, so multi-currency international selling across storefronts is not available. Suppliers can also remove a retailer from their network without advance notice.
How are returns and refunds handled when I never touched the product?
As the retailer, you set the return and refund policies, and suppliers are expected to follow them. Returns can be managed via the Shopify admin or through integrated third-party apps like Loop, Narvar, and Redo. However, some merchants have flagged that there is no formal dispute resolution mechanism if a supplier refuses to cooperate on a refund — leaving the retailer to absorb the cost or resolve the conflict outside the platform.
Does it integrate with apps I already use, like Shopify Flow or Klaviyo?
Shopify Collective is built natively into Shopify and integrates directly with Shopify Admin, Shopify Flow, Shopify Bundles, and Shopify Subscriptions. It also works with third-party returns apps including Loop, Narvar, and Redo. Because everything operates inside Shopify, no additional platforms or middleware are required to manage orders, payments, or fulfillment.
