Frequently asked questions
Is there a free plan, or do I need to pay from day one?
Intuitive Shipping offers a free Sandbox plan that lets you configure and test your entire setup for as long as you need — it never expires and doesn't count toward your free trial. When you're ready to go live, paid plans start at $70/month (Growth, 500 orders included), $150/month (Business, 2,000 orders), and $300/month (Professional, 5,000 orders), each with a 15-day free live-mode trial. All paid plans include the full feature set — no premium features are locked behind higher tiers.
Do I need a specific Shopify plan for this app to work at checkout?
Yes — Shopify requires its third-party carrier-calculated shipping feature to be enabled before any external rate calculator, including Intuitive Shipping, can display rates at checkout. On the Basic plan, this feature is no longer available as a paid add-on (as of January 1, 2023), so you'll need to be on the Shopify (Grow) plan or higher. On the Grow plan it costs an extra $20/month, but Shopify includes it for free if you switch to annual billing.
How long does setup take — can I do it without a developer?
No developer is needed — the app works entirely behind the scenes within Shopify's native checkout and requires no theme edits or coding. Intuitive Shipping provides a free 1-on-1 onboarding session with every plan. However, if your shipping logic is complex (multiple warehouses, dimensional rates, conditional rules), expect a learning curve with the 40+ available conditions; merchants recommend thorough testing in Sandbox mode before going live.
What do other merchants say about the support team?
The app holds a 5.0-star rating from over 466 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with 98% being 5-star. Merchants consistently praise the support team for responding via Zoom calls, email, and personalized video walkthroughs — going well beyond pointing to help articles. Long-term merchants (some using it 4–6 years) specifically cite the team's willingness to tackle edge-case configurations and even assist with third-party carrier issues like UPS migrations.
Does it integrate with ShipStation and major carriers for live rates?
Yes — Intuitive Shipping integrates directly with ShipStation, and supports live rate carriers including UPS, FedEx, USPS, Canada Post, Australia Post, DHL Express, DHL eCommerce, Purolator, Canpar, and FedEx Freight LTL. Through the ShipStation integration, package and fulfillment details from completed orders flow back into ShipStation automatically, supporting streamlined fulfillment planning.
Can it handle complex setups like multiple warehouses, B2B tiers, or dimensional (SmartBoxing) rates?
Yes — this is where Intuitive Shipping stands apart from Shopify's native shipping. It supports multi-origin/multi-warehouse rate blending, B2B customer-tag-based pricing tiers, and SmartBoxing™, which calculates the correct box size, weight, and quantity for each order to produce accurate dimensional rates at checkout. Merchants with highly varied SKUs, oversized items, or wholesale/retail rate splits specifically cite these capabilities as the reason they chose the app.
Does it work for international and multi-currency stores?
Yes — multi-currency is a listed supported feature, and the app supports multi-zone and multi-origin configurations needed for cross-border shipping. It also includes subzone controls using postal/ZIP codes for fine-tuning rates by region. Note that some express checkout methods (like Apple Pay) pass only a postal code and do not pass customer tags, which can limit tag-based conditional rules during those flows.
