Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify Collabs really free, or will I end up paying fees?

Shopify Collabs is free to install for merchants on the Basic, Shopify, Advanced, or Shopify Plus plans (the Starter and Retail plans are excluded). However, a 2.9% commission processing fee applies on automatic payments when creators drive sales, so you only pay when revenue is actually generated. Foreign currency exchange fees may also apply for international collaborations.

Does the Collabs creator network have enough real influencers for me to recruit?

Collabs lets you search millions of creator profiles and send direct invites, and you can also add a custom application page to your store. That said, some merchants report that many inbound applicants are low-quality or spammy, and the platform is currently not accepting new creator signups — so your best bet may be proactively inviting creators you already know or discover via search, rather than waiting for organic applications.

How does setup work — can I get this running without a developer?

Setup is designed to be self-serve and requires no coding. From your Shopify admin you install the app, complete a brand profile, configure commission rates and programs, and optionally add a customizable application page to your storefront — all in a few steps. Merchants consistently describe the interface as clean and easy to navigate.

What integrations does it support — does it work with Klaviyo, Shopify Flow, and subscriptions?

Shopify Collabs lists integrations with Shopify Flow, Shopify Checkout, Instagram, YouTube, Klaviyo, Yotpo, and subscriptions directly on its App Store listing. However, some merchants note that affiliate attribution does not work correctly for subscription orders, so test this carefully if subscriptions are a core part of your business.

How does commission tracking and payment work, and are there any gotchas?

Commissions are tracked automatically via Shopify's native attribution and paid out through your Shopify bill, removing the need for manual calculations. However, merchants have flagged two notable issues: partial refunds are not automatically deducted from affiliate commissions (only full refunds are), and payout timelines can stretch to 30–57 days from the first sale, which some affiliates find frustrating.

Is Shopify Collabs available for international or multi-currency stores?

The Collabs creator network (for discovering and recruiting new creators) is primarily available in the US and Canada, which limits access for merchants outside those regions. Merchants can still invite international creators directly, but foreign currency exchange fees may apply and the network discovery experience is limited outside North America.

What do other merchants say — is the support reliable and does the app actually drive sales?

The app holds a 4.0-star rating across 378 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with 51% giving 5 stars. Merchants praise the seamless Shopify integration, ease of gifting, and automated payments. On the downside, 25% leave 1-star reviews citing issues like affiliate fraud, unclear payout timelines, and limited support responsiveness when disputes arise. Real-world results vary: brands like Duradry and Solgaard report strong ROI, while others find the inbound creator quality disappointing.
